Sample Poem 1: ‘Ode’ to The Piano Guys

'Ode' to
The Piano Guys

They make us laugh, they make us cry,
They lift our hearts, they make us sigh.
They make a grand piano fly!
They jump with cellos through the sky!
What others would not think to try
Is done by a Piano Guy.

They might be on a mountainside,
Or playing for a blushing bride;
They might be on a fairground ride,
Or sitting by the rolling tide.
They let the music be their guide,
And so they play it far and wide.

By forests and historic stones,
With stunning footage, caught by drones,
They might preform in  ‘old folks homes’ ~
They might be Indiana Jones!
They step out of their comfort zones
And fill the world with dulcet tones.

In castle or in concert hall,
By canyon or by waterfall,
On clifftop or on China’s Wall ~
These challenges seem rather small
To Jon and Steve and Al and Paul.
We know – because they’ve done them all!

They master every music school
Yet aren’t constrained by petty rules ~
They drum on a piano stool!
They clown around and act the fool.
They’re never mean, they’re never cruel ~
Endlessly redefining "cool."

They’re highly skilled musicians, yeah,
But what’s much more is that this pair
Play with such feeling what they share ~
They put their heart and soul in there!
And that is infinitely rare:
The source of their unrivalled flair.

Their tunes and harmonies beguile,
With talent that stands out a mile.
We love their jokes, we love their style!
We love the way they always smile!
They make us feel that our own trials
Are in abeyance for a while.

Unique composing that transcends
All fleeting fads and passing trends;
Through music that contrasts, yet blends,
We feel the joy and hope they send.
For many of us, they’re Godsends ~
We feel, somehow, that they’re our friends.

And when it comes to pain and care
We know they’ve had more than their share,
And yet they rise above despair ~
They keep afloat through faith and prayer;
And still, through all they’ve had to bear,
They spread the sunshine everywhere.

Through melodies that heal our pain,
That still the heart and hush the brain,
That give us peace and keep us sane ~
We see the good things that remain:
We see the rainbow through the rain.
And so we play that song again.

If anyone should ask us why
We love their music, we’ll reply
That when our lives have gone awry ~
When all the world seems hard and dry ~
They make us laugh, they make us cry
With beauty that we can’t deny.
They show us hope is not a lie.
They lift our hearts and spirits high.

And when their music starts to play
We know it’s gonna be okay.

Yes, I do know that this doesn’t follow the rules of an ode!
But I believe it to be in the true spirit of one.
